A Brief History of the Alpini

The Alpini are one of the most iconic units in the Italian army. Founded in 1872, these mountain soldiers are known for their skill in mountain climbing and their ability to combat in rugged terrain. Their distinctive uniform, characterized by the “black feather” hat, makes them immediately recognizable and represents a symbol of national pride.

A Moment of Unity

The National Gathering of the Alpini is an event held every two years and represents a significant moment for all Alpini and for Italy itself. This year, Udine had the honor of hosting this celebration. The city streets were filled with thousands of Alpini from all over Italy, along with their families and friends. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, with songs, dances, and a deep sense of camaraderie.
